Stepping into antique barn Daniel’s Wood Den feels like a stuck-in-time, log-cabin getaway.
Surrounded by rustic charm and historical keepsakes, the vintage dairy barn in Cataula, Georgia, features 10,000 square feet of custom-designed and antique clothing, accessories and furniture — from native horn chandeliers and canoe cabinets to vintage door-built bed frames.
As soon as I entered for the first time this year, I was in Southern heaven. The den reminds me of a Clint Eastwood spaghetti Western scene.
A master craftsman and outdoorsman, the late Daniel McGrotha owned and operated the den, which is where he also built custom furniture for Harris and Muscogee County residents. He traveled the country selling his artistic wood work as well.
Today, his wife, Cindy McGrotha, still runs the English- to Southwestern-influenced showroom, featuring an impressive collection of unusual, handcrafted pieces from their equine excursions.
A must-visit southerly site, indeed.
