Who: Southern Styles & Steeds (SS&S)
What: SS&S is a monthly blogazine exploring the fashion, beauty and lifestyle of a fourth-generation farm girl of African-American descent. The publication merges informative blog posts and digital magazine designs to tell engaging stories about founder Candace Morrow (a.k.a. Cowgirl Candace). Each month she shares her themed vintage-to-contemporary country Western style and Southern heritage with her readers (oftentimes referred to as her “mavericks”).
Where: SS&S originated in Milledgeville, Georgia, hometown of Cowgirl Candace. Milledgeville also is the backdrop to the publication’s stories and most of its photo shoots.
Why: The blogazine is an opportunity to share the fashion, beauty and culture of African-American cowhands from the South and is a celebration of rural living.
When: SS&S launched January 2013.
And Sometimes How: Collaboration with talented friends, students of new media and family members made this publication a reality.
